On 26 February 2024, in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, presented a letter of credence to the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Kingdom of The Netherlands, Solvita Āboltiņa.
Solvita Āboltiņa began her career in the diplomatic service in 1993, when she took up the post at the Consular Department. In 1994 Solvita Āboltiņa was appointed Director of the Consular Department. She has also served as Counsellor at the Planning Group and the Director of the European Department.
Since August 2018, Solvita Āboltiņa had been posted as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Italian Republic and Permanent Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. She was also the non-resident Ambassador of Latvia to the Republic of Malta, the Republic of San Marino and the Republic of Albania.
Solvita Āboltiņa was elected to the 8th Saeima (the Latvian Parliament) from the New Era party, where she served as Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee. She has also been elected to the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Saeima. Solvita Aboltiņa was the Deputy Speaker of the 9th Saeima and the Speaker of the 10th and the 11th Saeima.
From December 2004 until April 2006, Solvita Āboltiņa held the post of the Minister of Justice of Latvia.
The incoming Ambassador has received higher education in law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia.
Solvita Āboltiņa has been decorated with the Royal Order of the Polar Star from the Kingdom of Sweden, the Order of the White Rose of Finland, the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana from the Republic of Estonia, and the National Order of Merit, Grade Two, from the Republic of Malta.
The Ambassador is fluent in English, German, Russian, and Italian.
In her post, Solvita Āboltiņa is succeeding the former Ambassador, Aiga Liepiņa.
