At the opening ceremony, the audience was addressed by Ambassador Pēteris Vaivars, the Mayor of Yeongwol, Choi Myeongseo, and other representatives of the county government. The exhibition highlights one of the greatest natural endowments of Latvia – amber which dates back to 40 million years and can still be found on the Baltic shores.
The “Secrets of Amber” exhibition shows large-scale photographs revealing a new visual dimension of this extraordinary substance. It is a fresh perspective of amber with close-ups of a unique world, millions of years old, including insects and plants from a very distant past preserved due to the chemical composition of amber.
Andris Zēgners, the author of the exhibition, is one of the most remarkable Latvian artists of his generation; He is interested in studying structures and textures of various objects and natural elements with a following creative transformation. Zēgners’ exhibition on amber has been displayed in the Baltic States, Finland, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Russia, Australia, the USA, India, and China. This is the artist’s first exhibition in Korea.
