Latvia is pitching transport and logistics projects in Hong Kong

From 13-14 September 2023, Latvia's transport and logistics delegation participated in the 8th Belt and Road Summit (BRS), which took place in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.  

This is the first time that Latvian transport and logistics projects were promoted on-site at a major international cooperation forum in Asia following the COVID-19 travel restrictions which were lifted in China earlier this year.

Considering Latvia’s strategic geographic location in North Europe, Latvia is actively participating in the global and regional transport and logistics cooperation initiatives, which aim to facilitate investments, promote economic exchanges, support knowledge transfers and assist the formation of international partnerships to maintain, enhance and sustain regional and global connectivity. 

At the two-day event in Hong Kong, the Latvian transport and logistics delegation was soliciting interest for potential industrial and innovation park developments in the Freeports of Riga and Ventspils, as well as promoting passenger and aviation cargo projects at Riga International Airport. 

On 13 September Freeport of Riga Project Manager Mr. Arturs Zandersons participated in the transport and logistics infrastructure project pitching session and delivered a presentation on the Spilve Park project.

Spilve Park is the largest greenfield industrial park development project in the Baltic Sea region with vast possibilities for foreign enterprises to establish and expand business in the European Union by investing, developing and operating warehousing, manufacturing, and assembly facilities to service European Union and third market flows via Latvia. 

The transport and logistics delegation from Latvia was led by Mr Helmuts Kols, Counsellor of the Embassy of Latvia in China, and Mr Arturs Zandersons, Project Manager of the Freeport Authority of Riga. 

The 8th Belt and Road Summit (BRS) gathered more than 6,000 business leaders onsite, including 90 government officials. About 20,000 participants joined the forum online from over 70 countries and regions. According to the organisers, more than 280 investment projects across diverse sectors, including infrastructure, transport and logistics, energy, technology, and financial services were presented at the forum. Latvia’s delegations’ participation in the event was made possible with the invitation and support provided by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
