  Birth, marriage or death certificates can be requested online from any location via the Latvian State Portal. https://latvija.lv/en

Requesting documents from public institutions in Latvia If the document needs to be legalised for the use abroad, this should be indicated in the application to the relevant Latvian public institution. The document will be forwarded to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalisation and then forwarded to the diplomatic/ consular mission in the person’s country of residence.

If a document needs to be legalised or certified with Apostille, this should be indicated in your application to the relevant Latvian public institution. If certification with Apostille is required, your request will be forwarded to a sworn notary in Latvia

If legalisation is required the document will be forwarded to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalisation and then forwarded to the diplomatic/ consular mission in the person’s country of residence.
