Diplomatic relations established between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Mauritius (The Permanent Mission of Latvia to the UN in New York)

On 13 February 2003 diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Mauritius at the premises of the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the UN in New York.

The joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed by Latvia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative to the UN, Mr Gints Jegermanis, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mauritius and Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Mr Jagdish Dharamchand Koonjul.

The Ambassadors expressed mutual interest in the development of commercial ties between the two countries. The Ambassador of Mauritius expressed the idea that the Latvian timber industry could export its products to Mauritius. Mauritius also plans to open an embassy in Russia this year.
