Registration of a child as a citizen of Latvia – obtaining the personal identity code.
To register a child as a Citizen of Latvia one parent (citizens of Latvia), must present the following documents at the consular section of the Embassy:
- Application form:
· Iesniegums bērna reģistrēšanai līdz 15 gadu vecumam;
· Iesniegums personas no 15 gadu vecuma reģistrēšanai;
- Both parents' passports / eID cards;
- Childs passport (if there is one) or any other passport if child has a citizenship of another country;
- Childs birth certificate.
After the registration, in approximately 4 weeks the personal identity code is granted to the child.
After identity code is granted you can apply for either for a passport and/or ID card.

To apply for a passport and/or ID card, presence of one parent (Citizen of Latvia) with a passport and presence of a child at the Embassy is required. You should submit 2 good quality passport-size (3.5 x 4.5 cm) photographs of a child. It takes 4 to 5 weeks to process the passport and/or eID card.
