Latvian nationals can apply for a new identity document – a passport or an eID card – at the diplomatic/consular missions of Latvia

The service is available for persons residing abroad permanently and having declared their place of residence abroad with the Population Register.

Visitors wishing to apply for a passport/eID at the Embassy are received by prior appointment only. Please schedule an appointment in advance by using our electronic appointment system

Visitors must appear in person and present their Latvian passport/eID, and in case of loss of their identity document – a police certificate confirming the loss of the document.

Please note that an eID card is a mandatory document for Latvian citizens aged 15 years and above.

To apply for a new passport and/or eID card, please submit the following documents: 

  1. previous passport or eID card (if applicable);
  2. confirmation of residence registration (Meldezettel);
  3. one document size (35x45mm) photo on white background, not older than 3 months;
  4. documents to submit in the following cases: 
  • marriage registration – original marriage certificate, copy of your partner's passport or ID card;
  • divorce  original divorce decree;
  • if you wish to include your newborn child's name in your passport – original birth certificate of the child and a copy of the other parent's passport or ID card.

NB!  Payments on site at the Embassy can only be made by card (VISA, VISA Electron, VPay, Maestro, MasterCard).

Passport/ID card is issued in Latvia and the whole process takes 4-6 weeks from submission of documents and payment of all fees.

 

   

 

The legal basis for the processing of personal data (given name, surname, personal identity number and other personal data indicated in the application) is Article 6(1)(c) of the General Data Protection Regulation. The legal obligation of Diplomatic and Consular Missions of Latvia abroad is to process personal data in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 134 of 21.02.2012 “Regulations Regarding Personal Identification Documents”.
