Latvian nationals can apply for a new identity document – a passport or an eID card – at the diplomatic/consular missions of Latvia

Visitors wishing to apply for a passport/eID at the Embassy are received by prior appointment only. Please schedule an appointment in advance by using our electronic appointment system

Visitors must appear in person and present their Latvian passport/eID.

Please note that an eID card is a mandatory document for Latvian citizens aged 15 years and above.

To apply for a new passport and/or eID card, please submit the following documents: 

  1. previous passport or eID card (if applicable);
  2. one document size (35x45mm) photo on white background, not older than 3 months;

If the following changes in marital status have occurred:

Marriage and change of last name or divorce and change of last name -

Information about the change of first name/surname must first be entered in the register of natural persons. Before requesting a visit, we ask you to make sure that the information about the new first/last name is already included in the Latvian Register of Natural Persons!

A child was born -

In order to issue the first identity document, your child must be registered as a Latvian citizen.

When you arrive to apply for your child's first passport/eID card, you must bring the following with you:

the full form of the birth certificate containing the names of the parents (which registers the person as a Latvian citizen);

Decision of the Directorate of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of Latvia on the allocation of a personal code.

NB!  Payments on site at the Embassy can only be made by card (VISA, VISA Electron, VPay, Maestro, MasterCard).

Passport/ID card is issued in Latvia and the whole process takes 4-6 weeks from submission of documents and payment of all fees.

 

   

 

The legal basis for the processing of personal data (given name, surname, personal identity number and other personal data indicated in the application) is Article 6(1)(c) of the General Data Protection Regulation. The legal obligation of Diplomatic and Consular Missions of Latvia abroad is to process personal data in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 134 of 21.02.2012 “Regulations Regarding Personal Identification Documents”.
