On 3-4 June Riga hosted the 7th Baltic Sea State Heads of Government Summit, which gathered together in one place the prime ministers of 11 states - Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Russia, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Finland, Germany and Sweden, as well as representatives of the European Commission, to consider the future of the region and to come to an agreement on the reform of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) organisation. This brought to a close Latvia's presidency of the CBSS, lasting from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008. The presidency was taken over from Latvia by Denmark.
