On the Application in Latvia of Sanctions Imposed by the European Union on Crimea and Sevastopol

Sanctions imposed

The following is prohibited:

- The import into the Union of goods originating in Crimea or   Sevastopol.

- Export in goods and technology for use in the sectors of transport,   telecommunications, energy, or the prospection, exploration and production of   oil, gas and mineral resources.

- Providing, directly or indirectly, financing or financial assistance,   as well as insurance and reinsurance related to the import into the Union of   goods originating in Crimea or Sevastopol.

- New investment in the sectors of transport, telecommunications, energy, and exploitation of natural resources; export of key equipment and   technologies related to the those sectors.

- Foreign investment.

- The provision of services directly related to the investment ban, and   to tourism activities.

- The provision of services in telecommunications and energy sector and   concerning the exploitation of oil, gas and minerals.

The EU sanctions are targeted only against the import of goods originating in Crimea or Sevastopol, and without a certificate of origin issued by the Government of Ukraine.

The prohibition on the import of goods shall be without prejudice to the execution before 26 September 2014 of an obligation arising from a contract concluded before 25 July 2014, or the conclusion and execution before 26 September 2014 of ancillary contracts necessary for the execution of such a contract.

Restrictions of financial nature (financing, financial assistance, insurance, reinsurance) have also been imposed in relation to the import into the EU of goods originating in Crimea or Sevastopol.

In accordance with amendments adopted on 31 July 2014, a ban has been imposed on new investment related to infrastructure in the sectors of transport, telecommunications and energy and the exploitation of natural resources in Crimea and Sevastopol, and an export ban on key equipment and technology related to those sectors.
