On 16 April, State Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Latvia Andrejs Pildegovičs together with the Ambassador of Latvia to Ukraine Dr. Argita Daudze visited the city of Odessa in southern Ukraine. Latvian officials met with the Head of the Odessa Regional State Administration Vladimir Nemirovski and the representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in Odessa Konstantin Rzhepishevski. State Secretary Pildegovičs expressed Latvia's support to Ukraine on its path to political and economic reforms. The Latvian side strongly condemned separatist activities in the eastern regions of Ukraine and Russia's irresponsible efforts of destabilising the situation in the country.
State Secretary Pildegovičs had a meeting with Igor Koval, Rector of the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University. The lecture delivered by Andrejs Pildegovičs, "Ukraine and the EU: the status quo of the relations and future prospects", attracted keen interest from students. The Latvian delegation also met the candidate for the post of the honorary consul of Latvia in Odessa, O.Veretennikov.
