The Ambassador of Latvia to the UN, OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna presents the letter of accreditation to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency

On 10 September 2020, Katrīna Kaktiņa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the UN, OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna presented the letter of accreditation to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi.

During the accreditation conversation, Latvia's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and participation in the technical cooperation program, which makes a significant contribution to building Latvia's radiation safety and nuclear medicine capabilities, were discussed. H.E. Ms. K. Kaktiņa appreciated the IAEA's timely and significant support to Latvia in increasing the testing capacity for Covid-19 by supplying two sets of rapid analysis equipment, thus increasing the testing capacity. Concerning the current international and regional issues, the officials discussed the monitoring of Iran's nuclear program by the IAEA and the situation in North Korea. H.E. Ms. K. Kaktiņa also emphasized the need for a conclusion by international experts on whether the Astraviec nuclear power plant in Belarus is considered safe before it is put into operation. This is a particularly important issue for Latvia as a neighboring country.
