From 19 to 23 May 2025, the 34th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) was held in Vienna, Austria. For the first time Latvia participated in the work of the Commission as a full-fledged member.

The session included expert discussions on topics such as environmental crime, smuggling of commercial goods and trafficking in cultural objects, organised fraud and cybercrime. During the session, the Member States adopted several resolutions on issues such as the smuggling of migrants, illegal trade in natural habitats and wildlife, and prison reform.

Among them was a resolution proposed by the Member States of the European Union to renew the UN guidelines on crime prevention.

The session held preparations for the next UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Congress, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates in April 2026.

The Latvian delegation was represented at the session by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior.
