Seminar on Latvia "Letland 100 år" takes place in Elsinore

On 26 October 2019, People's University of Helsingør in cooperation with the Danish-Latvian Society and the Embassy of Latvia in Denmark organized a seminar “Letland 100 år”. The event was opened by the Latvian Ambassador to Denmark, Alda Vanaga.

The seminar program covered a wide range of topics: guest lecturers gave talks on political and economic development of Latvia after independence in the 1990s, on dialogue with the Russian-speaking minority, on support for church work in Latvia, and also a personal journey from childhood in Soviet Latvia to a successful career in Denmark. Representatives of the Danish-Latvian Society, Lis Nielsen and Niels Bendix Knudsen, talked about the establishment of the folk school in the Rite Parish of Viesīte district, which operates on the example of Danish folk schools. Ieva Zībārte, Head of the Exhibition Center of the National Library of Latvia, gave a professional talk about art nouveau in Latvian architecture and symbolism in Latvian art. Also, the popular Askolds Saulītis' documentary "The Baltic Way of Freedom" was shown at the seminar. At the end of the event, the audience had the opportunity to listen to the performance of the Copenhagen Latvian choir "In Corde Meo".
