The Ambassador of Latvia, Inga Skujiņa, presents her credentials to the Queen of Denmark
On 30 September 2022, in an official ceremony, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Denmark, Inga Skujiņa, presented her credentials to Her Majesty Queen Margarethe II of Denmark.
The Ambassador and the Queen discussed the security environment in Europe, Russia’s war in Ukraine and global instability it was causing. The Queen expressed interest in the public opinion and sentiment in Latvia, and in support provided to Ukrainian refugees and their children.
The Ambassador praised the close cooperation between Latvia and Denmark and she thanked Denmark for its support for the strengthening of Latvia’s security. Inga Skujiņa noted that she was set on strengthening the political dialogue and maintaining close contacts with Danish central government and local authorities, researchers and members of civil society.
The conversation also addressed the promotion of cooperation in culture in view of Copenhagen becoming the World Capital of Architecture in 2023. The Ambassador underlined that opportunities for cooperation should be explored for creating joint projects in the field of culture and urban environment. Inga Skujiņa expressed appreciation of the active work of the Danish Cultural Institute in Latvia since the early 1990s, and the fact that Latvian young people were studying in Danish higher education institutions.
The Ambassador noted that Latvia and Denmark were linked by close cooperation in the regional Baltic Sea formats; in addition, the strategic importance of the Arctic had been increasing and opening up new opportunities for the countries to work together.
In her current posting, Ambassador Inga Skujiņa succeeds Alda Vanaga, who was serving as Ambassador to Denmark since 2018.
