To promote Latvian–Danish research cooperation and integration into the international quantum ecosystem, the University of Latvia (UL) Vice-Rector for Science Guntars Kitenbergs, Professor Andris Ambainis, and Professor Vjačeslavs Kaščejevs visited Copenhagen on 17 April 2026, reinforcing the scientific partnership between the two countries.

During the visit, UL Vice-Rector for Science G. Kitenbergs signed a memorandum of cooperation with the University of Copenhagen in the field of quantum research. This is the second memorandum of its kind between Latvian and Danish universities, expanding the collaboration launched in 2025 between Riga Technical University and the Niels Bohr Institute.

The memorandum provides for:

  • joint research projects supported by national, European, and international funding;
  • student exchange programmes to foster the development of young talent;
  • shared use of infrastructure, facilitating access to research resources at both universities.

“International cooperation is of great importance to the University of Latvia. Our goal is not only scientific excellence but also active dialogue with international partners to position Latvia as a significant player on the global quantum map,” emphasised Guntars Kitenbergs.

The signing ceremony took place during the Quantum Hub Annual Meeting hosted by the University of Copenhagen. The event brought together leading researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors, providing a platform for Latvian experts. Professor A. Ambainis participated in a high-level expert panel, further strengthening Latvia’s profile in the field of quantum technologies.
