On 16 September 2024 Latvian Ambassador to the UN in Geneva H.E. Mr. Ivars Pundurs had accreditation visit at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) where he met with the CERN Director for International Relations Ms Charlotte Warakaulle.
At the meeting Latvian Ambassador recognized the fruitful cooperation between Latvia and the CERN and stressed that Latvia is reliable and honest partner of CERN. Ambassador drew attention to the fact that CERN membership is integral part of Latvia’s overall competitiveness and scientific excellence strategy, therefore Latvia is interested to deepen its cooperation with CERN in future.
CERN Director for International Relations underlined Latvia’s positive contribution to organization’s scientific and technological programs.
Background information
CERN is the world leading scientific center that was established on 29 September 1954. CERN provides the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator that allows to carry out the highest quality research in fundamental physics. CERN is located on the border of France and Switzerland with headquarters in the Canton of Geneva in Switzerland.
Latvia became associate member of CERN on 2 August 2021 and is on the path to full membership. At present it has 24 member states, 2 member states in pre-accession status and 8 associated member states.
