On 15 August 2026, career diplomat Diana Eglīte took up her duties as Latvia’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Georgia, succeeding Ambassador Edīte Medne.

Diana Eglīte has identified the key areas of Latvia’s cooperation with Georgia as strengthening economic ties and identifying opportunities for closer economic cooperation; supporting civil society, independent media and young people; promoting cooperation in education and science; fostering people-to-people contacts; and further developing cultural relations.

Since the restoration of independence, Latvia and Georgia have maintained close and friendly bilateral relations. Latvia has consistently supported Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in international organisations and forums. Drawing on its own experience of European Union and NATO integration, Latvia supports Georgia’s aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration.

In light of the course pursued by the Georgian government, which has taken the country further away from democratic values, high-level political contacts between Latvia and Georgia have been limited. Cooperation continues primarily at working level.

Prior to taking up her current position, Diana Eglīte served for four years as Press Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. Throughout her diplomatic career, she has served as Consul and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Latvia in the Czech Republic, where she was responsible for communication and cultural cooperation.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she also gained extensive experience in consular affairs, working in the Consular Assistance Division and providing assistance to Latvian nationals in distress abroad. Together with her colleagues, she developed the “Ceļo droši” (“Travel Safely”) initiative promoting safe travel abroad.

Diana Eglīte has more than ten years of experience in media relations, including as Head of the Press and Information Division. She has been involved in organising a number of high-level international events, including the Summit of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, and coordinated media relations during Latvia’s first Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as in other international formats.
