On 30 March 2023, in an official ceremony, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Juris Štālmeistars presented his letter of credence to the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Latvia and Portugal are close allies, both in the context of the European Union and NATO, in favour of restoring peace and security in Europe and supporting Ukraine in its fight against aggressor Russia. Both countries have excellent opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation, including in the economic field.

The Ambassador extended greetings from the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, to the President of Portugal, who will hold a State Visit in Portugal after few weeks.

Ambassador Juris Štālmeistars has succeeded Jānis Sīlis, who was serving as a non-resident Ambassador to Portugal since 2018.
