The Balts Unity Day in Ireland
On Friday, 22 September the national flag of Latvia and the national flag of Lithuania were raised to celebrate the Day of Balts Unity in Ireland. Latvian Ambassador Juris Štālmeistars and Lithuanian Ambassador Marijus Gudynas in a solemn ceremony lifted the national flag of Latvia outside of the Embassy of Lithuania and the national flag of Lithuanian outside of the Embassy of Latvia, commemorating the historic victory of 1236 of the over the Livonian sword brothers in the Battle of the Sun and paying a tribute to the common history of the Balts people.

The Day of Balts Unity was established in memory of the Battle of the Sun, which took place on 22 September 1236, in which the troops of the Latvian and Lithuanian ancestors defeated the Livonian sword brothers.
The Day of Balts Unity is the only common Remembrance Day of Latvia and Lithuania that has been declared as official and celebrated since 18 May 2000.
