Issuance of an Emergency travel document

The EU Emergency Travel Document is a temporary travel document, which assures the identity of a person under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Latvia and temporarily replaces the travel document (passport or identity card) issued by the Republic of Latvia.

The EU Emergency Travel Document can be received only in emergency cases if the person requesting it, while abroad in a short-term visit, has lost his/her travel document issued by the Republic of Latvia or if the document has been stolen. 

The EU Emergency Travel Document gives its holder the right to return to Latvia or their country of residence (declared in the Latvian Register of Natural Persons) one time only. The EU Emergency Travel Document is not valid for transiting the United Kingdom and Turkey.

The document is valid for a given journey, but for a maximum of 15 days.
