Minister of Transport of Latvia attends the Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference via video link

On 14 October 2021 the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Latvia Mr Talis Linkaits attended the opening ceremony and the first plenary session of the Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Beijing, China via video link.

At the opening ceremony H.E. Mr Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and H.E. Mr Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a keynote speech calling on nations to advance the efforts of the international transport community in the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On 15 October 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Latvia Ms Ilonda Stepanova attended the second plenary session via video link. The conference onsite was attended by H.E. Ms Maija Manika, Ambassador of Latvia to China and Mr Helmuts Kols, Counsellor of Transport and Communications of the Embassy of Latvia in China.

The Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Beijing is held in a hybrid mode both on-site and online between 14-16 October 2021. The main theme of the conference is “Sustainable Transport, Sustainable Development”, covering topics of sustainable transportation in relation to economic recovery, poverty alleviation, green development, global connectivity, regional development, sustainable cities, and governance.
