On 10 August 2022 Ms. Ilonda Stepanova, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia met with His Excellency Mr. Liang Jianquan, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Latvia to discuss the challenges of the current geopolitical situation and the interest of both countries to cooperate in the field of transport and logistics by confirming Latvia's transport and logistics sector’s ability to provide competitive services and solutions.

"Russia's aggression in Ukraine has significantly hampered the development of the transit, transport, and logistics industry. At the same time, the industry is looking for new business opportunities. Despite the geopolitical challenges, Latvian transport and logistics companies are ready to cooperate with China and offer an efficient transport flow, connecting Asia with Europe," said Ms. Ilonda Stepanova.

In the field of logistics and transit, Latvia's priorities in cooperation with China are to restore air traffic between the two countries, organize the delivery of Latvijas Pasts (Latvia Post) and China Post (China Post), as well as develop regular container train transportation through Latvian ports to Poland and other countries in Europe.

The Latvian transport and logistics industry can offer efficient, economical, and safe transport services and logistics solutions for the transit transportation of bulk cargo, liquid cargo, chemicals, agricultural products, general cargo, and containers.

Based on the bilateral Latvia-China agreement on air and sea transport, and the inter-ministerial agreement on railway transport, enterprises and entrepreneurs in both countries can implement mutually beneficial cooperation.
