On 17 November 2020, in an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Hungary, Agnese Kalniņa.
Agnese Kalniņa began her diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001; she has worked at the Legal Department, headed the International Law Division, the Strategic Goods Export Control Division, and the Internal Security Department, as well as being posted to the Embassy of Latvia in Washington D.C.
Ambassador Kalniņa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Latvia as well as having received advanced professional training at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the Vienna School of International Studies, and the Academy of European Law in Trier, Germany.
In her post, Ambassador Kalniņa succeeds Vilmārs Heniņš, who has served as the Latvian Ambassador to Hungary since 2016.
