On 25-26 November 2019, the fourth consultations between the Political Directors of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic States and Israel took place in Jerusalem. The Latvian delegation was headed by the Under Secretary of State, Political Director, Jānis Mažeiks.

The consultations considered current cooperation between the Baltic States and Israel: the upcoming visits of senior officials, cooperation in international organisations, the state of affairs in the Middle East, as well as the EU-Israel dialogue and topics of current importance for the European Union.

The officials welcomed the friendly character of relations while pointing out the potential for expanding cooperation, especially in business. Jānis Mažeiks highlighted the opportunities for cooperation between Latvia and Israel in the sectors of start-ups, new technologies and tourism.

The previous consultations between the Baltic and Israeli political directors took place in Riga in 2017.

Latvia and Israel are engaged in an intensive political dialogue, including exchange of high-level visits; a broad bilateral legal framework has been established and cooperation is ongoing in international organisations and cultural affairs.
