Minister of Defence Ināra Mūrniece paid a visit to Canada

From 7 -12 May, Latvian Minister of Defence Ināra Mūrniece paid a working visit to Canada. During the meeting with Canadian Minister of Defence Anita Anand, the ministers announced a new joint initiative between Latvia and Canada - a training program for junior officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Latvia. The planned training will contribute to Ukraine's fight with Russia.

Minister Ināra Mūrniece visited the military base of Canadian Armed Forces in Petawawa and greeted Canadian soldiers travelling to Latvia this summer to be deployed in Canada's led NATO eFP battle group.  In Ottawa Minister Mūrniece also met with members of the Standing Committee on National Defence of the House of Commons and disscused with members of parliament the actualities of the NATO collective defence and other geopolitic issues. 

During her working visit, the Minister had a meeting with representatives of the Latvian diaspora in Ottawa. Minister Mūrniece gave an interview to newspaper “Latvija Amerikā” and Canadian CBC TV programme Power & Politics.
