The service is available to people who reside abroad permanently and have indicated their place of residence abroad in the Register of Natural Persons of Latvia.
In order to apply for new passport and /or ID card, please book an appointment by using the Electronic Appointment System.
Persons who have reached the age of 15 are obliged to apply for a personal ID card (eID) when applying for a passport.
To renew an identity document, you shall come to the Embassy in person and present the following documents:
- passport/ID card;
- one passport size (3.5 x 4.5 cm) colored photo on a light background;
If your passport and/or ID card have been lost or stolen, you will have to fill out the notification for the loss of the document.

*Reduced fee is applied to people who:
- Are under the age of 20 at the time of submission of documents;
- Have reached the age provided in the Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the Latvian State Pensions Act;
- Receive old-age pension and present the pensioner’s card;
- Have disability of Group I or II and present a document that confirms such disability.
It can take up to 6 weeks to receive the new passport and/or ID card. To inquire about options to apply for identity documents urgently or in case of other questions please contact the Embassy's Consular Section.
* The legal basis for the processing of personal data (given name, surname, personal identity number and other personal data indicated in the application) is Article 6(1)(c) of the General Data Protection Regulation. The legal obligation of Diplomatic and Consular Missions of Latvia abroad is to process personal data in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 134 of 21.02.2012 “Regulations Regarding Personal Identification Documents”.
