Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Belgium
H.E. Ms Aiga Liepiņa
Aiga Liepiņa is the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Belgium, a position she has held since September 2023. On 9 November 2023, she submitted her letter of credence to H.M. King Philippe of Belgium. She is a career diplomat and has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia for numerous years, most of her career dedicating to multilateral diplomacy.
She has a Bachelor's degree of Philosophy and a master’s degree is in Political Science and International Relations in University of Latvia. She served at the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in New York from 2002 to 2006. From 2006 to 2009 she held the position of the Director at the Department for International Organisations and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. She was posted as Ambassador to the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the Council of Europe from 2009 to 2014 , as well as a non-resident Ambassador to Serbia from 2009 to 2013. Following that, she returned to hold the position as the Ambassador - Director of the International Organisations and Human Rights Policy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2019. Afterwards, she served as the Ambassador of Latvia to the Netherlands from 2019 to 2023, where she was also in her post of Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition ofChemical Weapons in The Hague from 2019 to 2024.
Throughout her career, she has been honored with "The Order of the Three Stars of the Republic of Latvia” in 2015 and in 2023 she was awarded “The Order of Orange-Nassau” by the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
