Latvia and the Netherlands have close bilateral relations characterized by regular political dialogue, and broad and varied cooperation, especially in the fields of security, economy, culture, and education. Successful cooperation has been established within the European Union, NATO and other international organizations. Meetings in the “3+3” format regularly take place between the Baltic and Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg). Latvia and the Netherlands are united by a common understanding of European values and international challenges, and our relations are developing with a common goal of a united, secure and economically developed Europe. Latvia highly values the contribution of the Netherlands to promoting the security of the Baltic States.
Diplomatic relations between Latvia and the Netherlands were established on 24 March 1921. Following the restoration of independence, the Netherlands recognized the renewed Republic of Latvia on 27 August 1991.

Latvia currently has two Honorary Consuls who serve in the Netherlands: Katarina Hartgers is responsible for the provinces of North Holland, Flevoland and Utrecht; Emile Bruschinski serving in the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant.
