The service is available to persons who reside abroad permanently and have indicated their place of residence abroad in the Register of Natural Persons of Latvia.
The child can be registered in Latvian citizenship, if one or both parents are Latvian citizens or non-citizens at the time of the child's birth.
Documents can be submitted:
1) In the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of Latvia by post or by e-mail signed with a secure electronic signature. More information here.
2) In the Embassy of Latvia in the Netherlands. To register your child as a citizen of Latvia please send by post to the Latvian Embassy in the Netherlands following documents:
- Filled application form;
- Birth certificate on international form (can be requested at the local municipality where the birth of the child has been registered);
- Copy of a personal identification document (passport or ID card) of the parent(s), on which you have written "Copy correct, Date, Signature".
After receiving the documents and payment (40,00 EUR), the Embassy will forward documentation to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of Latvia. The personal identity code is granted to the child in approximately two weeks.
The issuance of a passport and/or ID card is possible only after the identity code has been granted to the child. In order to apply for the first identity document (passport and/or ID card) of the child, please book an appointment by using the ELECTRONIC APPOINTMENT SYSTEM.
