The Ambassador of Latvia, Solveiga Silkalna, accredited to Lithuania
On 12 September 2023, at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius, the Ambassador of Latvia, Solveiga Silkalna, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda.
In the conversation, the Ambassador underlined the friendly and close bilateral relations between the two countries, while confirming her determination to work actively to deepen them. Latvia and Lithuania should work together and develop infrastructure projects of regional importance in the field of transport and energy, including Rail Baltica.
“Strong neighbourly relations contribute to the security and prosperity of the entire Baltic region. Latvia is linked with Lithuania through their Balts’ identity, historical parallels and a common understanding of the current geopolitical challenges. Let us continue our dynamic cooperation in various fields and formats,” Ambassador Silkalna said.
The President of Lithuania commended the strong and favourable relations between Latvia and Lithuania. The officials emphasised that, for the two countries, the priority lay in all forms of support for Ukraine. It should be provided immediately and ensured in the long term.
Ambassador Solveiga Silkalna succeeds Indulis Bērziņš, who has held the post of Ambassador to Lithuania since 2019.
