Ambassador Solveiga Silkalna participates in the visit of the Prime Minister Evika Siliņa to Vilnius

On 22 November 2024, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa took part in the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic Council of Ministers in Vilnius and Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Solveiga Silkalna participated as part of the delegation.

During the meeting Prime Minister of Latvia stressed: "Rail Baltica is a major competitiveness and military mobility project for the Baltic countries, and not only Latvia, but also Lithuania and Estonia are facing challenges related to the project completion. This is a large-scale, multi-annual project, and the costs estimated in the past do not correspond to the costs of constructing the infrastructure in any of the countries today. I called for a high-level international coordination format to deal with common project issues on a day-to-day basis. A unified strategy and coordinated action are also required to attract the additional funding".

This meeting of Baltic Prime Ministers in Vilnius concludes Lithuania's presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers in 2024. Next year, Latvia will be the presiding country in the Baltic Council of Ministers. Latvia has set the following cooperation priorities for the Baltic States for 2025 - security and resilience of the region, support for Ukraine, as well as improvement of regional connectivity, strengthening of energy security and boosting investments.
