Seminar with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Belarus Nils Muižnieks

On 5 December 2024, the Embassy of Latvia together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Ambassador-at-large for democratic forces in Belarus Gunta Pastore, held a seminar with the new United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Belarus Nils Muižnieks. Lithuanian and Belarusian partners, foreign diplomats, representatives of non-governmental organizations and human rights activists took part in the seminar.

N. Muižnieks was approved as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Belarus in October of this year. His confirmation in this important position in the United Nations structure is a confirmation of his international experience in the field of human rights. According to United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution 20/13 of June 28, 2012, the United Nations Special Rapporteur contributes to the monitoring of the human rights situation in Belarus and makes recommendations for its improvement, submits regular reports to the United Nations Human Rights Council and the United Nations General Assembly.
