Minister of Education, Science and Sports of Lithuania met with Ambassador of Latvia

On 5 March 2025, Ambassador Solveiga Silkalna met with Minister of Education, Science and Sports of Lithuania Raminta Popovienė.

Minister R.Popovienė highly appreciated the cooperation with Latvia and the close cooperation with the  Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia, as well as the cooperation between the Ministers of Education of the Baltic States. Minister was interested in how Latvia organizes the involvement of students in non-formal education and in particular - about national defense education, which she would be happy to introduce in Lithuanian school programs.  Ambassador informed Minister about current events in the field of education and science in Latvia, as well as about the Lithuanian Secondary School in Riga.

During the meeting, issues in the education sector were discussed, such as the shortage of teachers and schools in regions where the number of children continues to decrease due to the demographic situation. In order to address the issue of teachers, Lithuania plans to increase their salaries in the next four years.
