Minister of Social Security and Labour of Lithuania met with Ambassadors of Latvia and Estonia

On 18 March 2025, after the joint initiative of Latvia and Estonia, Ambassadors Solveiga Silkalna and Kaili Terras met with the Minister of Social Security and Labour of Lithuania Inga Ruginienė.

Minister I. Ruginienė expressed gratitude that both ambassadors had arrived together, emphasizing that cooperation between the Baltic States is of great importance, we are strategic partners.  Minister emphasized that she would be happy to meet with her new Latvian colleague. The situation in Ukraine was also discussed during the meeting, the Minister emphasized that Lithuania continues to consider Ukraine a priority issue and is determined to help Ukraine win the war by all possible means - political, military, financial, humanitarian and social.

Priorities in domestic policy issues for Minister are the reform of the 2nd pension pillar, strengthening family policy and increasing the minimum wage. The Lithuanian side proposed that the welfare ministers of the Baltic States meet at least once a year, on a rotational basis, to coordinate positions and expressed readiness to hold first such meeting in Lithuania. The goal is a common social policy of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
