Embassy team plants new birch trees at annual Forest Days in Ukmergė district

On 17 April 2025, Ambassador Solveiga Silkalna and Counsellor Santa Krūze participated in the annual Forest Days ("Miško dienos") in the Ukmergė district, organized by the  company "Latvijas finieris" plywood factory in Lithuania Likmere". 

Addressing the participants, Ambassador S.Silkalna expressed gratitude to "Likmere" CEO Mindaugas Kasmauskis for organising Forest Days for so many years, as well as all participants of the Forest Days for their contribution to the planting of new birch growe. Ambassador also emphasized "Likmere" support to Ukraine, including easy-to-assemble plywood furniture, which is also provided to bomb shelters in Ukraine. In 2024, the company "Likmere" won the "Namejas award" as the most socially responsible company of 2023 - the largest provider of support to Ukraine.

This year the event brought together not only a large number of Lithuanian foresters and forest industry companies and representatives of “Latvijas finieris”, but also schoolchildren from Ukmergė. The Forest Days were also attended by the Mayor of Ukmergė District Municipality Darius Varnas, Director of Administration Inga Pračkailė and Advisor to the Mayor Goda Juzenaitė. During the Forest Days, birch were planted in an area of ​​more than 2 hectares. Together with the Embassy team, Head of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania Vitālijs Markūns and the representative of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lithuania Jeļena Markūne also participated in the planting of new birch trees.

Forest Days have been organized in Ukmergė District since 2007.
