Liepāja, city beloved by Lithuanians, presents an ambitious program of events as the European Capital of Culture 2027
On 9 April 2026, Ambassador of Latvia Solveiga Silkalna and Foundation Liepāja 2027 Chairperson of the Board Inta Šoriņa opened the (un)rest program of Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture 2027 in Vilnius, and participants of the event were introduced to the current tourism offers in Liepāja and South Kurzeme region.
The Latvian tourism seminar in Vilnius, which has already become a good tradition every spring, was this time dedicated to Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture in 2027. Liepāja was presented to Lithuanian tourism professionals and representatives of the cultural sector as an attractive travel destination, where the cultural program, urban environment and regional tourism offer create a unified and rich opportunity to experience Liepāja and South Kurzeme in a variety of ways. At the end of the event, the participants had the opportunity to make new contacts and discuss future cooperation opportunities.
The event was officially opened by a performance by the accordion duo from the Liepāja Music, Art and Design Secondary School, while in the premises of the Embassy of Latvia, visitors had the opportunity to view the exhibition of paintings by artist Dace Dēliņa Lipska “Sauceejas”, dedicated to the splendor of South Kurzeme – the suitis and the suitis’ wives. The seminar also provided an opportunity to meet Lithuanian artists and curators involved in the creation of the (un)rest program.
