Diplomatic unity in Vilnius – Nordic and Baltic embassies held joint celebration of national days

On 8 June 2026, the Nordic and Baltic embassies in Vilnius held a joint celebration of their national days, bringing together Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway and Sweden. The Ambassadors of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway and Sweden emphasized that the Nordic and Baltic countries are a group of close and like-minded partners with shared values. In today’s increasingly challenging geopolitical landscape, strengthening the Nordic-Baltic cooperation is our joint strategic priority.

This is the first time such a diplomatic event brings together the Nordic and Baltic countries in Lithuania to serve as a symbol of regional solidarity, strong cooperation, mutual trust, and unity in action.

The event took place at the Senatorių Pasažas, in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, and gathered more than 500 guests who were greeted with speeches of the Ambassadors of Nordic and Baltic countries and the Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys.

Among the guests were members of the Lithuanian parliament and government, politicians, representatives of local governments, foreign diplomats, employees of state institutions, businessmen, cultural workers and media representatives. The event featured Nordic-Baltic food, beverages, and guest performances.

Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, stressed that this event is one of the reasons to show how united and how open Nordic-Baltic team is - it shows our unity, it shows that we are one region, it shows that we are united. This is not only about our place in the map, our geopolitics, it is also about who we are and how we run things. Minister also pointed out that it is huge and great tradition to celebrate together our national days and “I felt like I had to be on the stage as the eighth one, next to 7 Ambassadors that gathered today”.

The Ambassadors also underlined that the Nordic and Baltic countries are among Ukraine’s strongest supporters. Strong partnership with Ukraine, committed to democratic values, human rights and the rule of law, is an investment that benefits us all.

The Nordic-Baltic Eight is an informal cooperation format which includes Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden.
