On 13 June 2003, an exhibition of works by Latvian painter Janis Kalnmalis opened at the Cultural Centre in Coloma Castle in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium. The opening was attended by the Mayor of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, as well as representatives of the Belgian government and society.

In opening the exhibition, Latvia's Ambassador to Belgium Aivars Groza stressed that, on becoming a part of the European Union and NATO, it will be important for Latvia to make itself better known in the other Member States, and particularly in Belgium, one of the most important centres of modern-day international politics.

The Ambassador acknowledged that art is one of the best means by which this can be achieved.

The exhibition is being organised with the support of the Sint-Pieters-Leeuw municipal council, and will remain on display until 22 July.
