On March 5-6, 2024, Jan Jambon, the Minister-President of Flanders visited Latvia. The focus of the visit was to discuss the possibilities of strenghtening the practical cooperation between Latvia and Flanders, especially in the economic and business sectors, so several business representatives also accompanied the official Flanders delegation.
The Latvian officials highlighted Latvia’s interest in the implementation of projects together with Flanders to rebuild Ukraine as well as to develop cooperation with Flanders and the Latvian high-tech industry. An interest was also expressed in the Flanders experience in the use of offshore wind and green hydrogen technologies. The Flemish-Latvian Offshore Wind Energy Forum was also organized in Riga.
Within the framework of the visit to the Latvian National Library, cooperation in performing arts and cultural education was discussed, as well as the ancient cultural and historical ties between Latvia and Flanders were noted. The delegation also visited the exhibition "The text does not interest us", where the exhibited works from the 16th century are directly linked to Antwerp since the first printer in Riga, Nikolaus Mollijn, was a Flemish.
