Latvian and Belgian transport ministers meet in Brussels
This year, on March 20, a bilateral meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium, between the Minister of Transport of Latvia, Kaspars Briškens, and the Federal Minister of Mobility of Belgium, Georges Gilkinet. The Ambassador of Latvia to Belgium, Aiga Liepiņa, also participated.
Since Belgium is currently the presiding country of the Council of the European Union, K. Briškens congratulated his Belgian colleague on their successful work. He confirmed that Belgium can continue to count on Latvia to remain a constructive partner.
The Minister of Transport of Latvia expressed his interest in expanding and developing cooperation with Belgium in transport logistics - promoting the development of freight transport between Latvian and Belgian (Flanders) ports and attracting higher value-added investments for the development of production in the ports. The two ministers shared their experiences with solutions to various issues within the competence of their positions. They agreed on closer cooperation in the EU format and bilaterally.
During the meeting, the Minister of Transport of Latvia, K. Briškens, signed the European Cycling Declaration, confirming that he fully supports the goals and their implementation.
The previous meeting of Latvian and Belgian transport ministers occurred in Brussels in May 2022.
