Latvian Ambassador to Belgium Aiga Liepiņa visits Liège on a regional visit
On 30 May 2024, the Ambassador of Latvia to Belgium Aiga Liepiņa paid a regional visit to the city of Liège in the Walloon Region, during which she visited the University of Liège, the seat of the regional municipality and the Léonie de Waha bilingual school.
The Ambassador met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liège, the Head of the International Relations Department, the Director of the Language Training Centre and the Head of the French Language Programme to discuss the existing contacts and exchange programmes between the University of Liège and Latvian higher education institutions, as well as to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the field of training and qualification development of French language teachers. The various French language programmes and courses offered by the University, as well as for teachers, were presented and further opportunities for cooperation in the field of education, including the promotion and accessibility of French language teaching in Latvia, were discussed.
After the university visit, the Ambassador and the Honorary Consul went to a reception at the Liège Regional Municipality, where they met with representatives of the Province and City of Liège, the CEO of the Walloon Logistics Centre, as well as the Director of the Liège Theatre and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The visit ended at the Léonie de Waha bilingual school, where the Ambassador learned about the school's principles and educational methods and participated in a few lessons.

The Government of the Republic of Latvia and the French Community of Belgium and the Walloon Region have a bilateral cooperation agreement signed in Riga on 12 July 2002. The Framework Document on Cooperation between the Republic of Latvia and the Walloon-Brussels region defines the priority areas of cooperation between the Parties, the modalities of implementation and the form of cooperation.
