Ambassador Aiga Liepiņa on a working visit to Luxembourg
On November 29, 2024, Latvian non-resident ambassador to Luxembourg Aiga Liepiņa met with the Secretary General of the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Defense, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Jean Olinger and Director of European Affairs Angèle Da Cruz.
During the meetings, the officials discussed the current geopolitical current affairs, as well as the close cooperation between Latvia and Luxembourg both in the field of bilateral relations and as partners in the EU and NATO. Ambassador Aiga Liepiņa expressed her determination to promote Latvian-Luxembourg relations during her term of office, placing special emphasis on strengthening economic cooperation, as well as identifying opportunities for cooperation between business and scientific representatives in the space industry.
The ambassador also participated at a working lunch with Gilles Roth, Minister of Finance of Luxembourg, organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union with.
Latvia and Luxembourg have close and long-standing relations that date back to 4 October 1922, when Luxembourg recognized the state of Latvia. Luxembourg did not formally recognise, either de jure or de facto, the annexation of the Baltic States to the USSR in 1940-1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored on 29 January 1992. Luxembourg is an important partner for Latvia both bilaterally and in defense of common interests in the European Union and cooperation in NATO.
Ambassador Aiga Liepiņa, submitted her credentials to His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume, Lieutenant-Representative of HRH the Grand Duke of Luxembourg on 17 October 2024.
