On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, on May 4, a ceremony of presenting the highest awards of the Latvian State was held at the Riga Castle. During the ceremony the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Luxembourg Dr. Henri Diederich was presented with the Cross of Recognition by the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Dr. Henri Diederich, a citizen of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, has served as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia for more than twenty years, since November 10, 2004.

In the early years of his tenure, Dr. Diederich played a key role in fostering the self-organization of the Latvian diaspora in Luxembourg resulting in establishment of association and several interest groups.

Conferring the state decoration “the Cross of Recognition” of the Republic of Latvia to the Latvian Honorary Consul in Luxembourg Dr. Henri Diederich is a recognition of his longstanding commitment and results achieved in promoting the interests and visibility of Latvia in Luxembourg.

Ambassador Aiga Liepiņa expresses her sincerest satisfaction  with our country's highest award to the Honorary Consul: ''The awarding of the Cross of Recognition is an acknowledgment by the State, not only the Embassy of Latvia, for the  work that he has carried out for more than twenty years with a high sense of responsibility and selflessness, maintaining and promoting bilateral relations between Latvia and Luxembourg and providing support to our fellow citizens. Over the years, the Embassy has developed a productive, close cooperation with Dr. Diederich, which, along with our diaspora in Luxembourg, has become a significant additional resource for Latvian diplomacy.''

In 2011, Dr. Diederich was awarded the Certificate of Recognition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
