Latvian stand welcomed thousands of visitors during the Europe Day in Luxembourg.

The Europe Day celebrations were held in the city of Wiltz, Luxembourg on May 10.  The event served as a vibrant gathering for EU member state embassies, international institutions and high-ranking officials to honour European achievements and unity.

The Latvian stand was a collaborative effort co-organized by the Embassy of Latvia in Belgium and Luxembourg, the "Luxembourg-Latvia" Association and the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Luxembourg Dr. Henri Diederich. Throughout the day, the public was invited to explore tourism opportunities in Latvia, participate in solving an educational crossword puzzle, designed to broaden knowledge about the country, as well as degustate authentic and homemade Latvian delicacies prepared by the stand organizers.

The festivities were graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including His Royal Highness Grand Duke Guillaume, Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and senior representatives from the European Commission and the European Parliament. This extensive representation emphasized the role of Europe Day as a fundamental symbol of democracy, solidarity and European integration.

Europe Day commemorates the historic 1950 Schuman Declaration, highlighting the values of peace and a shared future. Significantly, Luxembourg is the only EU member state where Europe Day (May 9) has been an official public holiday since 2019. This status reflects the nation’s deep-seated commitment to European ideals, which remain a central pillar of Luxembourg’s national identity.
