Applying for passport and ID card

Important:

  • The application form to apply for the passport/ identity card (eID) is in Latvian language only. If the applicant lacks the necessary knowledge of Latvian language, they must come with someone who can help to check the accuracy of the form. This could be a friend, a relative or a hired professional.
  • The service is available for Latvian citizens/non-citizens residing abroad permanently and having declared their place of residence in the United Kingdom on the Population Register.
  • The passport/identity card (eID) can only be renewed/applied for in person.
  • The visitors are seen by appointment only. Please visit the Consular Section at the exact time you have booked your appointment for, taking all necessary documents and filled in forms with you.
  • Starting from January 1st, 2021, Latvian citizens/non-citizens who have reached the age of 15 are obliged to also apply for an identity card (eID) when they apply for a passport.
  • If you live in Northern Ireland you must inform the consular officer of it during your appointment.
  • Only credit and debit card payments are accepted. 

 

Booking an appointment

Please book an appointment via the electronic appointment system. It is not possible to book an appointment via e-mail or telephone communications.

Please note that in order to book an appointment successfully you must view the browser in Latvian language only.

Please check the appointment availability on booking calendar for all the available dates and times. New appointments are added every Monday morning at 9.00 am 6 weeks ahead.

If Monday is the official holiday of Latvia or the United Kingdom, the appointment schedule opens on the next business day.

 

Documents required for the appointment

  • PREVIOUS IDENTITY DOCUMENTS MUST BE RETURNED (even if they have expired).
  • APPLICATION for the passport/ identity card (eID);
  • APPLICATION for activating e-certificates;
  • APPLICATION to declare the residence (if applicable);
  • STATEMENT of the loss, theft or destruction of the passport/identity card (eID (if applicable).

Due to personal identity documents being issued at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs in Latvia, obtaining a personal identity document via the diplomatic/consular mission can take up to six weeks.

 

Payment

Payments are accepted by credit or debit card only. If you are planning to pay with another person's card, the card holder must be present at the time of payment and present his/her identity document.

Consular fee for sending documents to applicant`s address is included in price.

* For children up to 14 years of age, payment for the identity card (eID) is 15 EUR less than the indicated amount because no additional consular fee is collected for sending an identity card eID and PIN/PUK codes separately, in accordance with Paragraph 18 of Cabinet Regulation No. 134 of 21 February 2012, Regulations regarding personal identity documents.
