Since 1 July 2006 persons who bring into / bring out of the customs territory of the European Community cash equivalent to 10 000 euro or more, crossing the border of the Republic of Latvia, shall declare it. This procedure is free of charge.
In accordance with the Article 4 of the "Law on declaring cash at the State border" cash means:
1) current banknotes and coins which are lawful means of payment;
2) the following financial instruments:
a. cheques, bills, payment orders and any financial instruments issued on bearer or issued in such a form that the title in this financial instruments transferred to a third party together with the instrument itself;
b. blank cheques, bills, payment orders and other financial instruments which, if signed, give the right to receive the money identifying the beneficiary.
