Commemorating the Baltic way

On 23 August, marking the 37th anniversary of the Baltic Way, the Embassies of the Baltic States donated photographs of the Baltic Way to the Mahatma Gandhi Museum in New Delhi as testimonies to this historically significant event. In their addresses, representatives of the Baltic embassies highlighted the historical significance of the Baltic peoples’ non-violent resistance to Soviet occupation and its enduring value in world history. The Baltic Way is also recognized in the UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.

The Embassy of Latvia in India donated to the Mahatma Gandhi Museum a photograph by Staņislavs Krakops, entitled “Participants of the Baltic Way near the Ķekava Bypass” (1989). The Embassy expresses its gratitude to the Latvian National Museum of History for providing the photograph.

During the event, the photographs of the Mahatma Gandhi Museum's collection were displayed on its premises as evidence of a non-violent popular resistance movement, reflecting the humanitarian principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
