- In order to join a full time academic course in a Latvian university students are required to hold a residence permit. Nationals of countries listed here and residing in Turkey: http://www.mfa.gov.lv/en/consular-information/obtaining-visas/third-countries-whose-nationals-or-specific-categories-of-such-third-country-nationals-who-are-subject-to-prior-consultation are required to apply for the permit at the Embassy. Residents of Turkey who are nationals of countries that are not on this list may apply for a multiple entry long term visa (national visa) for a period of 90 days in order to travel to Latvia and lodge their application for a residence permit at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs. The requirements for this type of visa are:

Passport (time period between the date of its issue and date of visa application must not exceed 10 years and passport must be valid for at least 3 months as of the end date of the planned trip).

Proof of adequate travel medical insurance for the entire period of stay. The policy should be valid for all Schengen States and covering any expenses that might arise in relation to urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment, accidental death or repatriation for medical reasons. The minimum coverage must be 42.600 EUR.

A certified police clearance issued by the competent institution of the country where the applicant has resided for a period longer than 12 months;
