In order to join a long-term Erasmus or other exchange study programme in Latvia, students are required to hold a multiple entry long term visa (D-type visa) for the whole study period.

N.B.! Longer application process (including prior consultations) is performed with respect to the nationals of specific third countries (according to the Cabinet Regulation of June 21, 2010, No. 554, “Regulation Regarding the Countries for the Citizens of which an Additional Assessment shall be Performed when Issuing a Visa or a Residence Permit”) and to the foreigners whom the status of a stateless person or refugee status has been granted in a foreign country. These persons applications will also include additional prior consultation period, additional questionnaire and interview, and the processing time may be extended and take up to 60 days at the most.
