Latvian Films in the 29th Vilnius International Film Festival Kino Pavasaris

Film festival Kino Pavasaris takes place for the 29th time from 14 till 27 March 2024 in several places in Lithuania. During this time, two Latvian films, Maria’s Silence and My Freedom are going to be premiered in Lithuania.

Maria’s Silence (Director Dāvis Sīmanis) tells the story of the Latvian actress Marija Leiko, who following a career in Berlin in the late 1930s goes to Moscow for family reasons and gradually becomes a witness and victim of the extermination of Latvians initiated by Stalin. The premiere of the film will take place in three towns: Vilnius on March 16 at 20:15, in Klaipeda on March 17 at 16:30 and in Kaunas on March 22 at 18:30. My Freedom (Director Ilze Kunga-Melgaile) is based on historical events and tells about the end of the 80s of the last century in Latvia, when the winds of change can be felt in the air. The prototype of the main character is Ita Kozakeviča, one of a journalist and politician, who was a prominent figure of the Awakening (Atmoda) movement advocating for the restoration of Latvia's independence from the Soviet Union. The premiere of the film will take place in Vilnius on March 18 at 18:30 and in Kaunas on March 20 at 18:15. In addition, the Lithuanian, Latvian and Irish co-production film Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania will be screened at the festival as part of the Smart7 initiative, on March 22, 24 and 25.
